Government to Shutdown on OCT 1

Did I scare you? Good... Democrats could be planning an October surprise. The offshore drilling ban is up at the end of September. In October the federal government starts a new fiscal year. Meaning Democrats could pack the ban into the budget. This would force the Republicans to vote against the budget to end the drilling ban OR vote for the budget and extend the ban another year.

Now, oil prices have dropped $20 just because President Bush removed the Presidential ban on drilling offshore. Remember hearing how Bush was stubborn and unchangeable? I'm going to butcher the quote but it goes something like, "When the facts change, I change my mind, what do you do?" Bush is about a month ahead of the Democratic congress in changing course on drilling for oil here at home. Now I really don't care what we use for energy, but it looks like Obama's policy is:

1. Raise taxes on "oil" companies (does anyone think that the energy companies won't pass that alone to consumers?)
2. Put helium in your tires?
3. Put a sweater on in the winter.
4. Open the windows in the summer.
5. Conserve.
6. NO NUKES
7. Release the strategic petroleum reserves.

I'm here to tell you, conservation is a LOSER!!! For conservation of energy to work the rate of energy consumption would have to drop below the growth of population. So the end result is less people just so we can have more energy.

When looking for energy, we can't be picky. I think the smart thing would be to diversify. It works for other investments.

Nukes, and lots of them. Let the free market pick the next great energy source. If solar works for our homes, great. If it works for our cars, great. I really don't care, but I have heard about wind and solar for all of my life and so far... I'm not impressed. Let's do what works and keep government out of it as much as possible.
