Proud to be an American

Maybe I don't see it. Maybe I'm completely blind to all of it. I honestly think Americans have a good. Are we better off than we were 7 years ago? I say yes. These last 7 years Americans have dealt with real issues.
We ( I think it's going to happen in a free market kind of way) may be looking at making this countries energy sources more diverse than ever before. We are finally going after Islamo-fascists that have been trying to destroy this country with the strategy of a thousand paper cuts.
Democracy is on the march most places in the world. China is starting to open up (not enough, but these people dig tradition). Cuba is going to either have a slow lurch toward freedom in the next 10 to 15 years OR a sudden counter commie revolution in the next 5. Europe is... Never mind Europe... Although France and Germany (at least in elections) are starting to move to the right. Eastern Europe is starting to really turn things around economically after being under the CCCP for so long.
Gas prices? The right free market energy policy fixes that.
Health Care? People should be able to take coverage with them and buy coverage as they need it. I know this may sound like a silly comparison, but I can insure my home and 2 cars for a year on what it would cost to pay for COBRA or some other health insurance plans. Why is that? More than one, but one of them is that employers hide the cost AND by taking the cost away from the individual, out of the free market. Imagine if (fill in name of your health insurance provider) had to compete on an individual basis with each consumer. Cost of health insurance were out in the open. I personally have an HSA with a $5000 deductible for under $300 a month that covers our family of 3. What do you think you may get back in salary if your employer didn't have to pay your health insurance for you? When I was working for 1 company I had this conversation with my boss. He told me that I could add 10 to 15 THOUSAND to my take home pay for what the company had to pay on insurance. Just think about it.
Illegal Immigration? A great fence (physical and technological) and a better government in Mexico. Crippling fines for employers who don't even check and NO FEDERAL FUNDING TO SANCTUARY CITIES. Why are immigration laws the only laws OK to break? Can you see Chicago saying "ALL tax evaders are welcome here and we wont' report you." If you live anywhere in Illinois you know that is about as likely as Mayor Daley going duck hunting with Dick Cheney.
In this country all things ARE possible, let's not forget that.
